The importance of preventative care exam

???????????????????????????????Many diseases and conditions can be prevented easily and cost-effectively through vaccinations, yearly exams, monthly preventative treatments and diagnostic testing. The preventative care exam is a head to tail exam that checks your pet’s eyes, ears, mouth, mobility, skin and hair coat, hair, lungs, abdomen, lymph nodes and tail for any abnormalities. Your pet’s temperature and weight will be taken. The exam allows the doctor to make an assessment of your pet’s health and answer any questions that you may have about your pet’s health. What does normal look like? Nose – should be moist and clean, no discharge Eyes – should be bright, moist and clear with no discharge Ears – should be clean with no debris, dry and odor free Mouth – teeth should be clean, white and gums should be nice and pink Skin/Hair Coat – should be shiny, smooth and odor free Abdomen – should not have any lumps, bumps or masses and pain free Temperature – should be between 101F – 102.5F   Click here to watch a a video from Pet Health Network for a dog physical exam.
